Vetted Organizations

We pulled the 990s so you don't have to.

Every veteran org rated by actual program spending, not marketing budgets. If an org spends more on fundraising than on veterans, you'll see it here.

Red Flags

How to spot a bad veteran org.

Before you donate or volunteer, check for these.

Program spending under 65%

More than a third of donations going to admin and fundraising is a red flag. Check the 990.

No public 990 filing

Legitimate nonprofits file publicly. If they won't show you the numbers, there's a reason.

CEO salary over $500K

Running a veteran charity shouldn't pay more than a Fortune 500 gig. Check executive compensation.

Emotional marketing, no programs

Lots of sad photos, no list of actual programs. If the website is all heartstrings and no specifics, keep your wallet closed.

"100% goes to veterans"

Nobody operates for free. If they claim zero overhead, they're either lying or cooking the books.

Aggressive phone solicitations

Legitimate orgs don't cold-call for donations. If they're calling, they're spending money to call — on your dime.
