Legitimate nonprofits file publicly. If they won't show you the numbers, there's a reason.
Running a veteran charity shouldn't pay more than a Fortune 500 gig. Check executive compensation.
Lots of sad photos, no list of actual programs. If the website is all heartstrings and no specifics, keep your wallet closed.
Nobody operates for free. If they claim zero overhead, they're either lying or cooking the books.
