What VA benefits do I qualify for?

Eligibility depends mainly on your character of service, your length and type of service, and whether you have conditions connected to service. Most veterans discharged under honorable or general conditions can apply for VA health care, education benefits under the GI Bill, and a VA home loan guaranty. Disability compensation additionally requires a service-connected condition. Only the VA can make an eligibility determination.

Does TRICARE continue after you separate?

Usually not. The Transitional Assistance Management Program provides 180 days of coverage after regular TRICARE ends, but it is not automatic - it applies mainly to involuntary separations under honorable conditions, certain Guard and Reserve activations, stop-loss separations, and sole survivorship discharges. A routine voluntary separation generally does not qualify.

How long do you have to convert SGLI to VGLI?

SGLI continues free for 120 days after you leave the military. You can apply for VGLI within 240 days of separation without answering health questions. The final deadline to apply at all is 1 year and 120 days after separation.
